Backyard Family Fun

family-portaits-newport-beachYou know that feeling where you have so much to do, that you don’t know where to start? This happens to my desk, laundry, emails, and now blogging. There is so much to share over these past few months, and I don’t really know where to start. So just like any of those other tasks where  I would start with one load or answer one email first, I will blog one family today! After all, the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.

One of the best parts of my job is getting to know the kids in a family, quickly. Growing up in a family with five kids, it was important to stand out, be known for who you were, not who your siblings were. When I get to spend time with a family, it is important to me to separate each kids likes, dislikes, and personalities quickly. Who loves the dogs best, who is the most adventurous? Who likes to be in charge? Who likes to be silly. It is easy to get a child to relax and have fun once you allow them to be themselves. Thank you to this sweet family who let me in their home, and opened up their personalities to me right away. It is a great honor.

What cute kids!! Fun and happy images. Love the diving into the pool football shots.

(And looking forward to seeing all the great stuff you’ve been up to over the past few months!)

Calling all six-year olds! Family Portraits in San Marino

happy-familyfamily-of-threemom-and-sonportrait-of-familyI get confident in my ability to photograph a child when I know it will not only be a six-year old, but even better yet, a six-year old boy. C.J. has taught me all I need to know in this subject matter.

Legos? Check

Star Wars? Check

Fighting? Check

Laughing? Body noise jokes? Tricks? Check. Check. Check!

That isn’t to say I don’t love a variety of ages etc. It is just so much fun playing with a kid I totally get. I was trying to coax this ultra cool kid to come on a playdate with CJ and I. CJ would LOVE this energetic kid. I mean, who wouldn’t think a ninja jumping lego lover was cool?

A perfect game…, Newport Coast Newborn Photography session

For each newborn baby session I do, I usually start out with the same old speech. It goes something like this:

“Your baby will probably pee on me. Hopefully not more, but it happens every time.

Your baby is probably going to fight sleep, because I am the best person in the world to promote non-napping lifestyles(not on purpose) my son never napped well.

Your baby will probably spit up on my blankets, but don’t worry, it happens every time”

Oh wait, except with this baby Brixton, who in the baseball world pitched a no hitter. She had a no-spitting, no-peeing, perfect sleeping game. And like how in baseball this is a really really big deal, I thought I would make a big deal of it here on my blog, so she can remember. She will most likely have many more amazing days like this, like the day she walks for the first time, or says her first word. But on this special perfect day, I felt lucky to be a part of it!

It’s the heart on my sleave never making me wonder…(los angeles family photography)

I knock on the door and there, right before me is a bundle of curly blond hair hiding behind his older, braver sister. The first thing out of his mouth is “My mama is putting me to bed” and then I realized what he thought my intentions were, babysitting. We played, and played and played, and after each giggle I would ask him “Can I put you to bed now?” but he didn’t budge.

The love pouring out of this session was pure joy to watch. Mom’s first email to me was to let me know that her kids loved hanging out with each other, and she was spot on. We ended this session with a playful sprinkler run in the front yard.It filled my heart with fond memories of doing the same with my sisters.

As I turned to leave, I had to ask one more time to my little man, “Can I put you to bed now?”

And then silence.

I think he was reconsidering.

These two babies were born back in November, but this was the first chance we had to get them on the Bosh calendar. One of each. A sweet girl with eyelashes so long you could get butterfly kisses on accident, and a boy who had the easiest disposition, and a great sense of humor already. That first picture of those four chubby legs and feet is my favorite, but then again, I adore all feet shots.

Once again, I just want to say that I am so blessed to have this amazing opportunity to do what I do.

My Sweet Baby Andrew….

Right, so there is a small technical aspect to the fact that he is not actually my baby. But because I got to see him a few times last year, coupled with the fact that he indeed reaches out for me when he sees me, he is mine in my heart. Ya, maybe he reaches out to all people cause he is so darn social, but I am gonna stick with the fact that he likes me! Here is a session we did in the fall that I never had a chance to post. Love to you Andrew, and your sweet beautiful mama!

So Lucky

If you have ever met Miss Madeleine, you are very lucky. I was inducted into that super elitist and awesome group of people when I met her for the first time here. She is a few weeks older or younger than CJ, I can’t remember. So I talk to her about CJ, like she knows him. Like, “oh really, you love your kindergarten teacher, so does CJ” and she is most likely thinking “really lady, who is this CJ kid?” But she is nice to me and doesn’t say that at all.

Her mom is one of the most beautiful strongest women I have ever met.

I was blessed once again to spend some time with this sweet girl this morning who was as much a nut as you would guess from looking at these pictures. She is so full of love, joy, and inspiration. It is like a quote from one of my favorite movies,

I guess you already know that there are angels masquerading as people walking around this planet and sweet Madeleine is one of  the bravest one of those.

Madeleine has a great battle in front of her, as does her parents. You can read about it here. She deserves your thoughts, and prayers and so much more. children-photography2

Thank You from the bottom of my heart Madeleine for letting me spend time with you. You have given me such a joy and appreciation for life, for love, and for my CJ. You have helped me learn to appreciate each and every moment I get with him. I love you Madeleine.orange-county-child-photographer

Family Session in Shady Canyon

Here is a session from October that I have never had the time to post. A beautiful family with an amazing backyard view.

irvine-shady-canyon-photographerphotography-shady-canyonshady-canyon-photographyThere is a faint, tiny light ahead. It just might be the end of my tunnel. Just a few more orders to finish up, and then I will be able to enjoy this season with ice skating trips, and manatees, and baking cookies. I cannot wait! Hope yours is great.

In Home Family Session: photography in the oc

boyskateboardorange-county-skateboard-photographydaughter-mom-photographydaughter-and-mom-photographybrothers-photographyNot sure if I have said this in a while….. I LOVE SESSIONS IN THE HOME!!!! Even if you think you have no space, there is. Even if you think your backyard is a mess, it isn’t. Your kids will feel….well, at home. And comfortable, and we will have a ton of fun!

This family is so beautiful, I feel like Dove is going to call me and ask for that mother daughter talent to come in for their next ad. Oh, and those surfer boys look torn straight out of a Billabong catalog. I feel so lucky that they invited me in to capture the love they share. The best part is, when the mom went to order pictures, the kids had a wish list of the pictures they had to have. Kids after my own heart! They love photos…..
