OC Family Magazine Cover shoot

OC Family magazine work has been a huge source of joy for me over the past few years. Meeting local writers, inspirational moms, and families not only expands my orange county world, it blows my mind with happy and joyful people I would never have had the privilege to meet. One of these local celebrities in my eyes is Becky Brumfield who writes her own version of motherhood on a dare-you-to-not-laugh-out-loud blog at Hippo Brigade, and her husband Pat who designs for Normalcy. To see the cover shot, and how it turned out, see OC Family’s online version.

Explore California: an Adventure in Wildflower Hunting

It turns out my most favorite thing to do is explore. If I were born 200 years ago, I would be tempted to join the forces in exploring the country. Waterfalls, tall trees, beaches, mountains all to be discovered and labeled. That is the life I would see myself living. Sometimes, I can convince a family or two to join me on one of these explorations, I call them Explore your Backyard. (Just named that as I was typing!) So many pirate caves, secret coves, wildflower patches and parks to explore here in Southern California. If you are looking for an adventure for your family, and want me to join along and document that expedition of sorts, email me!!!

Here is a wildflower hunt. Kellen and I stumbled across a wildflower patch of poppies, and when this family called and mentioned that their favorite thing to do was hunt for wildflowers, I knew we just had to visit our hidden gem. There was a small walk to get there, but what troopers these two girls were. It was seriously the BEST little “Explore your Backyard” adventure of the year.

Soon I will be posting two more sessions I had with Explore your Backyard. daddy daughters daddy daughter wilderness children laughing wildflower hunting wildflower hunting california spin daughter father sisters picnic picking flowers nature walk california family mom daughters mom daughter happy girl happy family flowergirl flower wreath girl father daughter family picnic Family adventure

Tidepool fun

One of my most enjoyable things to do is share my loves with the people I meet. To invite a family into my own personal secret spot, or playground, and watch them, and their kids fall in love with a place that brings me so much joy, that is a gift. Here on the tidepools, back in late last year. I brought a few families to share in this magical place that my kids and I love so dearly. A complete Joy!

My Turn

My toddler is almost a year and a half, and as a result, there is never a dull moment in my life. So the saying goes, the years are indeed short, but the days can be long. In between taking every single dish out of my cupboard and climbing onto the refrigerator, there are moments of sheer joy and cuddliness that will never return. Look at my nine year old. Nobody claps when he learns a new trick, or word- and kisses, forget about it! Those are rare at 9! But here it is, the face of a kitchen re-organizer, household safety checker, trashcan empty-er, dog loving bundle of cuteness that I cherish each and every second as of late. And, as the busy season of mine dies down, it is now my turn to turn the lens onto my family, and create snippets of what will soon be gone.    curly hair toddlertoddler beach toystoddler at beach low tidetoddler curly hairtoddler at the beachsurfing toddler beach

Laguna Beach Family Photographer

My formula for a great photo shoot is usually the same. Come dressed nice and pose, then change into suits and play. It is a great mix between what the traditional family portrait should be, to capturing children as they are, playful and fun.

Here is another Laguna Beach favorite spot of mine, as a backdrop for a great family shoot.

Backyard, home-sweet-home session

Home is where the heart is, and the diapers and the toys.

It is no mystery that baby’s love to be home. Maybe it is more like the baby’s mom and dad like to be home. (I am now remembering this stage as a mom of a one-year-old)

Home sessions are the best place to capture your babies. Hands down. I should take my own advice sometimes. Future disaster beach shoot blog post with my little boy to come to this blog.backyard family photography

Sweet Baby Ryden

This photo could very easily be my little one. My baby is so in love with this sweet trifecta; water, birds, nakedness.

So last year….

It may take some time to catch up on all my blog posts, this one is from the holiday season last year. One of my most beloved families. I feel so fortunate to watch kids grow up in this way. When I spend time with this family, it is easy to observe each one of these six children with such unique personalities. My sweet six month old already shows such distinct signs that he is unique from his brother in personality. My little baby is much more deliberate with his actions, and a thousand more times skittish. What a joy to watch a human being become who they are!

California Sunshine

family-photographytoddler-photographyfamily-beach-photographyhappy-portraitsfamily-portraits-beachfather-son-portraitbeach-portraitsbeach-family-portraitsfamily-beach-portraitsSo I owe this blog a picture or two of my sweet addition. He is a dream, and I would rather snuggle with him in my arms than arrange his cuteness in a picture, so for now, I will have to share a family I was privileged to photograph right before I went on Maternity leave.

This gorgeous family loves the beach as much as my family, so where else would we do a shoot but at waters edge. The style, love, and beauty in this family was beyond what I had imagined. This beautiful mama is my inspiration to get back in shape. Look at her! Love her. Thanks Ad.

And I promise to post a picture of my sweet one month old soon….

One-Year-Old Smiles

newport-beach-photographymother-sonone-year-old-photographyone-year-old-portraitmom-and-sonfamily-of-threeone-year-old-portraitsOne-year-old portraits rank near the top of my list of all time favorite sessions. They are so unpredictable, playful, adorable, hug-able. Little E hear was no exception, his smile could melt my your heart on the coldest winter day. He was joyful, silly and my best friend for the hour. He was wonderfu. I am still thinking about going back and dropping off his order just so I can spend a few more minutes with him. I feel so lucky to be a part of these families’ lives in such a joyful and meaningful way.
